Sanatan Festivals
Showing gratitude through celebration is called festival. Festivals are the soul of religion, and culture. Festivals infuse life into religion, and culture. Festivals keep religion, and culture alive. The society, which is more connected with festivals, its present and future are very strong.
Three types of festivals are celebrated: Dharma festivals, Cultural festivals, and Carnival festivals. Festivals related to Dharma are called Dharma festivals. Festivals related to religion and culture are called Cultural festivals. Festivals related to society and business are called carnival festivals. There are 24 Sanatan Festivals in Sanatan Dharma.
Sanatan Dharma is eternal; hence, festivals related to Dharma are also eternal. Religion, culture and society are not eternal; changes keep happening in religion, culture and society with time, due to which religious festivals and commercial festivals are not eternal. Changes keep happening in religious festivals and carnival festivals with time.
24 Sanatan Festivals
There are 8 origin festivals of Sanatan Dharma, 8 Janmotsav festivals, 8 family festivals, etc.; in total, there are 24 Sanatan festivals. Ganeshotsav, Durgamotsav, Dussehra, Diwali, Saraskranti, Shivratri, Holi, Kumbh Mela, etc. are the 8 Sanatan-origin festivals.
Hanuman Janmotsav, Shankar Janmotsav, Dattatreya Janmotsav, Parashuram Janmotsav, Ram Janmotsav, Krishna Janmotsav, Buddha Janmotsav, Kalki Janmotsav, etc. are the 8 Sanatan Janmotsav.
There are 8 eternal family festivals like parent worship, kids worship, brother worship, sister worship, spouse worship, teacher worship, pet worship, instrument worship, etc.
There are 8 origin festivals, 8 Janmotsav festivals, and 8 family festivals, totaling 24 festivals that celebrate with great pomp on all the 7 living planets, like Earthloka, Heavenloka, Preetiloka, Rasaloka, Stabdhaloka, Pragyaloka, and Prabhuloka.
8 origin festivals of Sanatan Dharma are completely based on the Sun and Jupiter transit in particular constellation. The 8 Janmotsav festivals of Sanatan Dharma are completely based on Sun and Moon transit in a particular constellation. The 8 family festivals of Sanatan Dharma are completely based on the zodiac of the sun and phase of the moon.
Cultural festivals
Cultural festivals are celebrated to bring together different communities under one culture. Cultural festivals are celebrated to celebrate special days like birthdays, death anniversary, foundation days, event days, etc.
To celebrate the birth anniversary of social workers, religious leaders, and the Rath Yatra, Palki is taken out in the permanent area with dancing and singing. Cultural festivals are celebrated by organizing programs like dance, music, bhajan, kirtan, satsang, etc. to celebrate the foundation day of culture and society or special events that happened in culture and society.
The number of cultural festivals keeps increasing and decreasing with time. Some cultural festivals disappear with time; some cultural festivals are created afresh with time. Bringing together different communities is the main objective of cultural festivals.
Carnivals
Carnivals are celebrated to bring society and business together. Carnivals are dedicated to social reformers and business activities. Carnivals are celebrated to celebrate special days like birth anniversaries of social reformers, marriage ceremonies, social special events, entertainment, business imports and exports, etc. Bringing society and business together is the main objective of carnivals.
The number of carnivals keeps on increasing and decreasing with time. Some carnivals disappear with time; some carnivals are newly created with time. Bringing together a special society and progress in business, etc. is the main objective of carnivals.
Necessity of festivals
Religious, cultural, and commercial festivals generate divine feelings like happiness, love, joy, bliss, devotion, liberation, satisfaction, dedication, etc. in the human mind. Humans have to celebrate all types of cultural and social festivals that generate divine feelings in their minds with great pomp and show.
Celebrating or not celebrating any religious, cultural, or commercial festival has a special effect on a human’s deeds. Celebrating any religious, cultural, and social festival increases the wealth, virtue, and luck of a human.
Celebrating any religious, cultural, and commercial festival makes the mind of a human experience extreme divine feelings, due to which a human attains maximum virtue. To attain maximum virtue, a human should celebrate all types of religious, cultural, and commercial festivals that generate divine feelings in their mind with great pomp and show.
